Software Licenses provide the terms for Stanford labs to use software created outside of Stanford at no cost to the university.

The following Stanford offices can help researchers navigate agreements for incoming or outgoing Software Licenses:

  • Incoming Software Licenses provided to Stanford by both not-for-profit and for-profit entities are handled by ICO.
  • Outgoing Software Licenses from Stanford to other entities are handled by Office of Technology Licensing.
  • Purchases of software are handled by Procurement Office. All Procurement requests must be submitted through iProcurement.

For an incoming Software License, please submit an ICO Intake Form
