A Sponsored Research Agreement (SRA) provides the terms and conditions for a Sponsored Project. ICO is one of several Stanford administrative offices that has authority to sign an SRA. Specifically, ICO negotiates and signs SRAs (and amendments) with for-profit companies funding research projects at Stanford. SRAs must conform to Stanford Policy and support Stanford's teaching and research mission. An SRA usually includes a specific scope of work, deliverables, payment terms, publication rights, as well as rights to intellectual property that may result from the research.

All SRA budgets include Stanford's federally-negotiated indirect cost rate as part of the budget.
